Raleigh, NC – In a shocking case, two aliens have been indicted on charges of illegal reentry into the United States, sparking concerns about border security and immigration laws.
A federal grand jury in Raleigh has returned indictments charging 40-year-old JeoVany Amilcar Ribas-Navarete, a native of El Salvador, and 36-year-old Leonel Aguirre-Giron, a native of Mexico, with violating federal laws by re-entering the US after being deported.
Ribas-Navarete, found in Wake County, faces maximum penalties of two years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment if convicted.
However, Aguirre-Giron, found in Sampson County, is a more serious case. He has been previously deported twice and is alleged to have been previously deported subsequent to a felony conviction for illegal reentry of a deported alien in the Southern District of Texas. If convicted, he would face maximum penalties of ten years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
The charges and allegations contained in the indictments are merely accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and Homeland Security Investigations are investigating the cases.
The indictment is a stark reminder of the ongoing issues with immigration laws and border security in the United States. The case highlights the importance of effective law enforcement and immigration policies to prevent similar cases from arising in the future.
The indictment has sparked concerns among lawmakers and immigration experts, who are calling for stricter laws and enforcement measures to prevent aliens from re-entering the US after being deported.
