Jeremy Cline, Methamphetamine Trafficking, North Carolina 2019

Jeremy Cline, 36, of Duplin County, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 288 months in federal prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation.

According to court documents and law enforcement officials, Cline was involved in the distribution of at least 30 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Eastern District of North Carolina.

The investigation, known as Operation Fighting Jelly Fish, was a multi-agency effort led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and local law enforcement agencies.

Cline’s troubles with the law began in 2019, when he was stopped by a Sampson County Sheriff’s Deputy for a traffic violation in Clinton, North Carolina. During the stop, Cline provided a false name, which led to a search of his vehicle and the discovery of over 10 grams of methamphetamine.

Over the course of the next few months, Cline was involved in several more incidents, including a high-speed motorcycle chase in Sampson County, during which he crashed and fled on foot. He was eventually apprehended and found to be in possession of over $1,800 and a .40 caliber handgun.

In addition to the methamphetamine trafficking charges, Cline also had prior convictions for felony burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

G. Norman Acker, III, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced the sentencing, which was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Richard E. Myers II. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo prosecuted the case.

The sentencing is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in the Eastern District of North Carolina, and law enforcement officials are hailing it as a major victory in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
