North Carolina Man Sentenced for Methamphetamine Trafficking

A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 235 months in prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation. Anthony Lemmonds, 53, of Onslow County, was found guilty of Conspiracy to Possess With Intent to Distribute and Distribute Five Hundred (500) Grams or More of Methamphetamine, Distribution of Fifty (50) Grams or More of Methamphetamine, and Possession With the Intent to Distribute Fifty (50) Grams or More of Methamphetamine.

Lemmonds pleaded guilty to the charges on June 9, 2020. The investigation, part of OCDETF Operation, revealed that Lemmonds was involved in the trafficking of over 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine between August 2018 and April 5, 2019.

According to court documents, Lemmonds was traveling to South Carolina to purchase crystal methamphetamine on multiple occasions. He was stopped by law enforcement on April 5, 2019, and officers recovered a sealed bag containing crystal methamphetamine and an additional 138 grams of methamphetamine from his car.

Lemmonds’ prior criminal history includes Possession of Cocaine (2004), Possession of Methamphetamine (2005), Possession of a Firearm by Felon and Possession of Methamphetamine (2017), and a previous federal conviction for Conspiracy to Possess With Intent to Distribute More than 500 Grams of Methamphetamine in 2009.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo prosecuted the case.
