HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A gritty West Virginia courtroom echoed with the judgment today as Jeremy Lee Pettry, 39, of Huntington, was sentenced to a seven-year prison term, followed by four years of supervised release, for his brazen distribution of methamphetamine.
On July 29, 2020, Pettry met his fate in a transaction that saw him sell an alarming 28.13 grams of the potent drug to an undercover informant. But that was not the end of his illegal activities. Just eight days later, on August 6, 2020, law enforcement officers swooped into his 25th Street residence with a search warrant.
The evidence against Pettry was overwhelming. Inside his home, they found 2.21 grams of cocaine, 15.73 grams of heroin, 5.78 grams of methamphetamine, and a loaded revolver. Pettry, unapologetic in his criminal intent, admitted to law enforcement that he possessed these controlled substances with the sole purpose of selling them.
But there was more. Pettry confessed to having sold an estimated 30 ounces of methamphetamine throughout the months prior to the raid on his residence. The DEA’s relentless investigative work and the community’s safety were served well by this confession and seizure of drugs, which threatened to fuel the local drug crisis.
United States Attorney Will Thompson stood before the court to announce the sentence, commending the DEA for their tireless efforts in battling drug crime. United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers was the stern hand that imposed the sentence, ensuring justice was served. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie S. Taylor prosecuted the case with unwavering dedication.
