Grimy Times: Jeremy Melancon Sentenced to 192 Months in Federal Prison for Methamphetamine Distribution
In a major blow to the narcotics trade, Jeremy Melancon, 47, of Kaplan, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 192 months in federal prison for distribution of methamphetamine.
U.S. District Judge Brian A. Jackson handed down the sentence on an unspecified date following Melancon’s guilty plea to charges of distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. The Court also ordered Melancon to serve five years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment.
According to admissions made as part of his guilty plea, on June 1, 2023, Melancon met with an undercover law enforcement officer in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant and distributed at least 18 grams of crystal methamphetamine to the undercover officer. A few hours later, in the parking lot of a retail store, Melancon met the same undercover officer and distributed at least 222 grams of crystal methamphetamine to the officer.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ben Wallace.
Melancon’s conviction is a significant victory for law enforcement agencies in the fight against narcotics trafficking. The sentence handed down by Judge Jackson serves as a stern warning to those involved in the distribution of illicit substances.
Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this case as more information becomes available.
