A Memphis man has been charged with sex trafficking a 14-year-old girl into the New Orleans area to perform commercial sex acts, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Jeremy Talbert, age 26, from Memphis, Tennessee, was charged today in a one-count bill of information for his role in bringing a fourteen-year-old female from Memphis, Tennessee to New Orleans, Louisiana for the purpose of having her perform commercial sex acts in or about October 2020 and continuing until on or about December 17, 2020.
The bill of information charges Talbert with Sex Trafficking of a Minor, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1591(a)(1), 1591(b)(2), 1594(a), and 2.
If convicted, Talbert faces a minimum sentence of ten (10) years imprisonment up to life imprisonment. The defendant also faces supervised release for a term of five years to life, up to a $250,000 fine, a requirement that the defendant participate in the sex offender registration and notification program, and a mandatory $100.00 special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans reiterated that a bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
U.S. Attorney Evans praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorneys Maria Carboni and Jordan Ginsberg are in charge of the prosecution.
