Jermaine Clark Sentenced To 235 Months For Bank Robbery Spree

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN — The grim tale of Jermaine DeShawn Clark, a 30-year-old bank robber with a taste for thrill and cash, concluded today as U.S. Attorney Andrew B. Birge announced a devastating sentence: 235 months in federal prison.

Clark’s spree began in Lansing on June 29, 2019, where he made off with $2,900 from the Chase Bank branch. Two weeks later, his sights turned to the PNC bank in Kalamazoo, where he walked away with $2,040. A Dodge Charger served as his getaway vehicle both times, and his flight ended when Michigan law enforcement honed in on him.

Yet Clark’s tale took a twisted turn in Ohio. Already on parole for a 2017 bank robbery conviction, he robbed another PNC branch in Mason, Ohio, netting $2,508. His trail led to Florence, Kentucky, where a high-speed chase on Interstate 75 followed, culminating in a crash that left a nurse severely injured.

After pleading guilty to the Michigan robberies and taking responsibility for the Mason heist, Judge Paul L. Maloney handed down his sentence. Clark’s ongoing threat to public safety was clear, making the judge’s decision of 235 months a reflection of the severity of his crimes.

This case was a collaborative effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Mason and Lansing Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy P. VerHey prosecuted the case with unwavering determination.

As Clark begins his sentence, communities in Michigan and Ohio breathe easier, knowing justice has been served for their shattered peace and lost property.
