Felon’s Ammunition Stash Lands Him Behind Bars
BISMARCK — Jerome Bradley Fletcher, 38, Minot, N.D., has been sentenced to four years and three months in federal prison for violating federal firearms laws.
Fletcher was stopped for a traffic violation on November 13, 2013 in Minot, North Dakota, and fled on foot. During the chase, he dropped two gun magazines containing 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which were later seized and identified as evidence.
Due to Fletcher’s 11 prior felony convictions, including robbery in 1995, felon in possession of a firearm in 2004, and possession of a controlled substance in 2004 and 2006 in Oregon, he was prohibited from possessing ammunition.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, and the Minot Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Hagler prosecuted the case.
Fletcher was sentenced on March 6, 2015 by U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland. As part of his sentence, Fletcher will serve four years and three months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund.
While this may seem like a harsh penalty, law enforcement officials and prosecutors argue that it’s necessary to keep the community safe from individuals who have shown a pattern of violent behavior.
