A 42-year-old man was brutally murdered in a hail of bullets in the vicinity of Northern Boulevard and 208th Street in Queens, New York, on January 13, 2020. The victim, Vladimir Olivo, lost his life in a senseless act of violence that has left his loved ones reeling.
The perpetrator, Jerry Rojas, also known as ‘Feddi,’ was arrested yesterday and presented before U.S. Magistrate Judge Thérèse Wiley Dancks in the Northern District of New York. Rojas, 26, is a member of the Black Stone Gorilla Gang, a notorious racketeering enterprise that operates primarily in the New York City metropolitan area and in the jails and prisons of New York City and the State of New York.
According to the Superseding Indictment, Rojas shot and killed Vladimir Olivo in the commission of a racketeering conspiracy. The charges against Rojas include racketeering conspiracy, narcotics conspiracy, firearms offense, murder in aid of racketeering, and murder through the use of a firearm. If convicted, Rojas faces a potential life sentence in prison.
U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman praised the outstanding investigative work of the NYPD, DEA, and the Special Agents of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Berman also thanked the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force of the United States Marshals Service for its work in apprehending Rojas.
Rojas is also charged with participating in a conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine, cocaine base, oxycodone, and marijuana from approximately 2011 through approximately March 2020. The charges against Rojas are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The case is being handled by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit. Assistant United States Attorneys Danielle R. Sassoon, Andrew K. Chan, and Brandon Harper, and Special Assistant United States Attorney Jaclyn Wood, are in charge of the prosecution.
A hearing has been scheduled for Rojas, who is currently being held in custody. The case is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gang violence on our communities and the need for continued efforts to combat organized crime.
