A brazen armed robbery shook downtown Miami on October 29, 2016, when Jessie Wooden, 29, of Miami, and his co-conspirator robbed a jewelry store in the Seybold Building.
According to the court record, Wooden brandished a firearm while his co-conspirator bound the victim’s hands and feet. The duo stole approximately 35 watches and over $250,000 in U.S. currency.
Wooden faces a maximum statutory sentence of life in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to commit an armed robbery, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
This case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Marianne Curtis from the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
Law enforcement officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle Wooden was driving on January 11, 2017, but he refused to stop and sideswiped an officer’s vehicle in an attempt to evade capture. Wooden crashed his vehicle and was taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle revealed a loaded firearm.
Wooden’s residence was also searched, revealing over 100 rounds of ammunition. He is scheduled to be sentenced before U.S. District Court Donald L. Graham on May 25, 2017.
The FBI and City of Miami Police Department are commended for their collaborative work as part of the South Florida Violent Crime Task Force.
