Jethroe Tickles, Possession of Stolen Gun and Drugs, Delaware 2021

A man from Wilmington, Delaware, has been sentenced to over nine years in federal prison for his role in a 2021 incident where he possessed a stolen gun and a significant amount of illicit substances.

Jethroe Tickles, 24, was arrested by the Wilmington Police Department after a traffic stop in the area of 24th and Carter Streets. During the stop, officers discovered a stolen gun in his possession, as well as approximately one ounce of marijuana, 113 Ecstasy pills, 57 Hydrocodone pills, Alprazolam, and other miscellaneous pills. A search of Mr. Tickles also yielded over $3,000 in cash.

At the sentencing hearing, prosecutors highlighted Mr. Tickles’ criminal convictions, which prohibit him from possessing firearms. The U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, David C. Weiss, stated that the combination of guns and drugs fuels violence in communities and that his office will continue to work with law enforcement to protect communities from gun violence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer K. Welsh prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Wilmington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The ATF’s Baltimore Special Agent in Charge, Toni M. Crosby, noted that the combination of drugs and firearms is a volatile mix that inevitably ends in violence.

U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika pronounced the sentence, which reflects the severity of Mr. Tickles’ disregard for the law. The case serves as a reminder that law enforcement will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute individuals who choose to engage in illegal activities.
