Philadelphia Man Faces Jail for Gun Crime
Philadelphia’s Joel Butler, 28, has pleaded guilty to a charge of violating federal firearms laws in a Pennsylvania federal court.
According to the guilty plea, Butler knowingly, intentionally, and unlawfully possessed firearms and ammunition on or about February 24, 2022, after having previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.
This offense is a serious crime that puts the community at risk. The laws are in place to protect the public and ensure that individuals do not use firearms for malicious purposes.
Assistant United States Arnold P. Bernard Jr. is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The United States Marshals Service conducted the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Butler.
Judge Haines scheduled sentencing for Oct. 12, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
