Chesterfield Man Sentenced for Embezzling $825,500 from SafeVision, LLC
St. Louis, MO – Joel Wishne was sentenced to 30 months in prison for embezzling approximately $825,500 from SafeVision, LLC, a company that provides optical and optometry services, during a three-year period.
According to court documents, Wishne was a managing member of SafeVision, LLC, and served as the accountant for the company. He was responsible for depositing funds received, paying the company’s expenses, and maintaining account records. Unbeknownst to the managing members, Wishne inflated certain expenses and the cost of goods within the annual financial statement, while underreporting certain income to conceal the fact that he was embezzling money from the company.
Wishne pled guilty in February to two felony counts of wire fraud. He appeared Thursday afternoon for sentencing before United States District Judge Catherine D. Perry.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Dianna Collins handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
As part of his sentence, Wishne was ordered to pay $782,500 in restitution. The embezzlement occurred between 2019 and 2022, during which time Wishne used the stolen funds for his own personal benefit.
Wishne’s sentence is a reminder that embezzlement is a serious crime that can have severe consequences. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute cases of embezzlement and other white-collar crimes.
In addition to his prison sentence, Wishne’s actions have a significant impact on the business community. His actions have damaged the reputation of SafeVision, LLC, and have resulted in financial losses for the company and its stakeholders.
Wishne’s case serves as a warning to business owners and employees to be vigilant in protecting their company’s assets and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
As the investigation into Wishne’s embezzlement continues, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is urging anyone with information about similar cases to come forward and report it to the authorities.
