Former Marine Sentenced to 750 Months for Child Pornography

A former Marine has been sentenced to 750 months in prison for producing child pornography and sexually exploiting three young children in Texas.

John Anthony Perez, 37, of Aransas Pass, was convicted of three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, also known as production of child pornography, in May 2016. Perez pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Hayden Head to 250 months on each count, to run consecutively.

The total sentence will be followed by 20 years of supervised release, during which time Perez will have to comply with numerous requirements designed to restrict his access to children and the Internet. He will also be ordered to register as a sex offender and pay $450,000 in restitution to each victim.

Perez was arrested in March 2016 after authorities learned of the sexual assault of three young children. The children were identified and confirmed the abuse, and Perez was identified as the perpetrator. He admitted to sexual assaulting the children and taking explicit photographs and videos of the abuse.

A Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent testified in court that Perez possessed additional videos and images of child pornography, many of which depicted the sexual exploitation of infants, bondage, and bestiality. A psychologist who evaluated the children told the court that Perez had first abused the young children when they were toddlers.

Perez’s interest in child pornography started when he was deployed overseas with the U.S. Marine Corps. Authorities executed a search warrant at his residence in March 2016 and seized various electronic devices. Forensic examination led to the discovery of 37 videos and 189 images of Perez sexually assaulting three children, as well as 494 other videos and over 16,000 images of child pornography.
