MEMPHIS, TN – In a landmark ruling, John Collins was found guilty of drug smuggling and faces decades behind bars. The District Court, W.D. Tennessee, convened to hear the case titled United States v. Collins, docket number 2:22-cr-20254.
The prosecution presented evidence that Collins was at the center of a sophisticated narcotics ring operating in Memphis. Authorities seized large quantities of illegal substances, including fentanyl and heroin, with an estimated street value in the millions.
Collins, aged 34, from Memphis, had been under investigation for months prior to his arrest. The charges against him included conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute.
The trial was marked by intense scrutiny, with both sides presenting a mountain of evidence. Collins’ defense team argued that their client was an unwitting pawn in a larger scheme, but the jury ultimately sided with the prosecution.
Following the verdict, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee stated, “This conviction serves as a stark reminder that those who engage in drug trafficking will be held accountable. The safety and well-being of our community are paramount.”
The sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place next month, where Collins could face multiple life sentences.
