**Bangor, Maine** – In a brazen attempt to re-enter the United States, a 54-year-old Canadian man has been sentenced to time served in prison and one year of supervised release.
John D. Fraser, a/k/a “John Knight,” 54, of Nova Scotia, Canada, was handed down the sentence by Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine.
A vehicle with Florida registration plates arrived at the Calais, Maine port of entry to the United States on November 20, 2016, with Fraser as a passenger.
Fraser provided a valid Canada passport in the name John Knight, claiming he was headed to his winter home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
However, after initial denials, Fraser eventually admitted to living and working in the United States for over 30 years without authorization.
A fingerprint check revealed a significant criminal history under the name John D. Fraser and a prior order of removal from the United States in 2010.
The investigation was conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security.
Acting United States Attorney Richard W. Murphy announced the sentencing, which brings a sense of closure to the case.
