MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A Minneapolis man was sentenced to 120 months in prison for possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, announced U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger.
John Lee Jones, 39, was arrested during a routine traffic stop on June 22, 2022, on Lyndale Avenue North at Lowry Avenue. Law enforcement officers observed a firearm in plain view and subsequently recovered another firearm, cocaine, and fentanyl pills from the vehicle.
According to court documents, Jones admitted to officers that the drugs and weapons were his and that he acquired them during a ‘lick’ a few days prior.
The case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Violent Offender Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Minneapolis Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Samantha H. Bates prosecuted the case.
Jones was sentenced yesterday in U.S. District Court before Judge Joan N. Ericksen.
This is a stark reminder of the dangers of fentanyl trafficking and the consequences of those who engage in it. As we continue to work to combat this issue, we must hold individuals accountable for their actions.
