Johnny Tyronne Hopkins, Cocaine and Firearm Charges, North Carolina 2014

Federal Judge Louise W. Flanagan handed down a harsh sentence to a Farmville man accused of serious drug and firearm charges in New Bern, North Carolina.

Johnny Tyronne Hopkins, 44, was sentenced to 60 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, 28 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), and a quantity of marijuana.

Additionally, Hopkins was sentenced to 60 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The 60-month sentence for the firearm charge will run consecutively to the 60-month sentence for the drug conspiracy, producing a total term of 120 months.

Hopkins previously pled guilty to these charges on October 21, 2014.

The investigation revealed that between March 2010 and April 2014, Hopkins conspired with others to distribute approximately 1 kilogram of cocaine, 135 grams of cocaine base (crack), 5 kilograms of marijuana, and 52 grams of oxycodone.

The investigation also revealed that Hopkins sold firearms and possessed numerous firearms in connection with his drug trafficking.

The investigation of this case was conducted by the Farmville Police Department, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, the Greenville Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The federal prosecution was handled by Special Assistant United States Attorney Glenn Perry.
