Johvian Everett, Illegal Gun Possession, Pennsylvania 2021

PITTSBURGH, PA – Johvian Everett, 24, formerly of Mt. Oliver, is facing federal charges after allegedly being found with a firearm and ammunition in October 2021, despite being a convicted felon. The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury, accuses Everett of knowingly violating federal firearms laws.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Everett’s prior felony conviction legally bars him from possessing any firearms or ammunition. The specifics of the prior conviction were not immediately released. Federal agents moved in after uncovering evidence of the alleged illegal possession.

If convicted, Everett could face a hefty prison sentence of up to 15 years. He also faces a potential fine of up to $250,000. However, the actual sentence will be determined by federal sentencing guidelines, taking into account the severity of the offense and Everett’s criminal history.

The case was built through a joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine C. Jordan is leading the prosecution. The ATF’s Philadelphia Field Division is overseeing the investigation.

This case is being touted as part of “Project Safe Neighborhoods” (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The Department of Justice launched a strengthened version of PSN in May 2021, emphasizing community trust, violence prevention, strategic enforcement, and measurable results.
