Maricely Corona, Straw Purchasing, Pennsylvania 2022

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania—A Harrisburg woman was sentenced for her role in a straw purchasing case, authorities announced.

Maricely Corona, 34, was sentenced to two years of probation for making false statements during the purchase of a firearm.

Corona purchased a 9mm Glock handgun at a gun show in Harrisburg on March 10, 2019. While purchasing the firearm, Corona lied on the Firearm Transaction Record form by stating that the gun was for herself, when in fact she was purchasing it for her brother, Joel Maldonado.

Maldonado was prohibited from purchasing a firearm because he was previously convicted of a felony.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott R. Ford prosecuted the case. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The initiative focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, and setting strategic enforcement priorities.

Corona pleaded guilty to the charge on January 5, 2022. The case highlights the importance of responsible gun ownership and the consequences of violating gun laws.

The Middle District of Pennsylvania’s U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the efforts of law enforcement and community members in bringing the case to a successful conclusion.

In related news, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has been working to address gun violence and reduce crime in the region. The office has partnered with local organizations to provide resources and support to communities affected by crime.

The case is a reminder that gun laws are in place to protect public safety and that those who violate these laws will face consequences.
