Brandon Jonas, Double Murder, New York 2024

BRANDON JONAS, the ruthless Buffalo thug who coldly ended two lives in a brutal robbery, has been meted out his own bitter justice. Today, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced that Jonas, 39, faces a 240-month prison term for the premeditated murder of Nelson and Miguel Camacho.

The grim saga began when Jonas and his cronies targeted the Camacho brothers after receiving word they were sitting on a cache of cash or drugs. The November 11, 2004, attack inside a Niagara Street residence in Buffalo’s West Side ended with one brother dead at the scene and another fighting for life.

Josue Ortiz, who initially served a decade behind bars for the murders, had his conviction overturned by an Erie County Court judge following federal investigation findings. Now, Jonas has been condemned to serve out 20 years in federal prison for his role in the heinous act.

Jonas was armed with an AK-47 style rifle while Efrain Hidalgo wielded a baseball bat during the botched heist. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph M. Tripi led the prosecution, ensuring justice was served for the Camachos’ untimely and tragic deaths.

This sentencing is a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice by federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, New York State Police, Buffalo Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, Major Stanley Edwards, III, Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia, and Special Agent in Charge Bryan Miller were instrumental in bringing Jonas to his knees.

As Brandon Jonas prepares for a life behind bars, his victims’ families find a measure of closure, knowing that the man responsible for their loss will spend two decades in confinement. This is a stark reminder of the consequences awaiting those who venture into the realm of violence and crime.
