Former Bossier Parish Deputy Pleads Guilty in Steroid Distribution Scheme
SHREVEPORT, La. – In a shocking turn of events, Jonathan Colgin, a 36-year-old former Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy, has pleaded guilty to concealing a federal crime in connection with an anabolic steroid distribution scheme. U.S. Attorney David C. Joseph announced the charges, saying Colgin’s guilty plea is a significant blow to the steroid trafficking ring.
According to plea documents, Colgin was assigned to investigate an individual shipping anabolic steroids through the U.S. Mail in August 2016. During his investigation, he identified Brant Landry as the individual shipping the steroids and learned of the details of Landry’s steroid trafficking, including the location where Landry produced the anabolic steroids.
However, Colgin failed to notify the appropriate authorities of Landry’s illegal conduct, despite having knowledge of the steroid trafficking. Instead, he concealed his friend’s role and conduct from law enforcement, further perpetuating the crime. This is a serious breach of trust and a clear example of the corrupting influence of power.
Colgin’s guilty plea comes on the heels of his co-defendant and former Shreveport Police Officer Brian Skinner’s guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute anabolic steroids. Skinner pleaded guilty on April 16, 2020, and is currently serving time for his role in the scheme.
Colgin faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on August 14, 2020. The investigation was conducted by the DEA, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Task Force, and Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Earl M. Campbell and Jessica D. Cassidy are prosecuting the case.
The steroid distribution scheme has been linked to several other cases, including United States v. Brant R. Landry and United States v. Mike Mosura. The extent of the scheme and the number of individuals involved are still unknown, but one thing is clear: the corrupting influence of power and greed can lead to devastating consequences.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and the need for law enforcement to uphold the highest standards of integrity. We will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
