Jonathan Rivera, 33, Indicted for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in Louisville, KY
A federal grand jury in Louisville returned an indictment on July 19, 2023, charging Jonathan Rivera, 33, of Louisville, Kentucky, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to the indictment, on July 10, 2023, Rivera possessed a Taurus GC3, 9-millimeter, semi-automatic handgun, and ammunition. Rivera was prohibited from possessing a firearm because he had previously been convicted of two counts of burglary in the second degree on September 14, 2009, in Jefferson County Circuit Court.
Rivera made his initial court appearance yesterday before a U.S. Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. If convicted, Rivera faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
This case is being investigated by the ATF and the Louisville Metro Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Porter is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
