Armed Robbery Spree in Virginia and North Carolina

Four men have been sentenced for their roles in a string of armed robberies that struck multiple commercial establishments in Virginia and North Carolina.

The victims of the robberies included four Walgreens Pharmacy stores and one CVS Pharmacy in the Eastern District of Virginia, as well as two Walgreens stores in Apex and Durham, North Carolina.

The defendants, Dikembwe Jahaan Akil Jones, Dallas Cogdell, III, Tyquan Demario MacCutcheon, and Armand Devon Mullen, each pleaded guilty to robbery affecting interstate commerce and using a firearm during a crime of violence on November 14, 2016.

Jones, 25, of Newport News, Virginia, was sentenced to 324 months, while Cogdell, 24, of Hampton, Virginia, received a 360-month sentence. MacCutcheon and Mullen, both 24 and from Hampton, Virginia, were also sentenced to 324 months.

The armed robberies took place between May 6 and May 16, 2016, with the defendants traveling to North Carolina after the initial robberies in Virginia. They were eventually apprehended after a traffic stop in Durham, where evidence from the North Carolina robberies was found.

According to court documents, the defendants were also linked to several commercial robberies in Hampton, Virginia, that occurred from October 2015 through April 2016.

U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente and FBI Special Agent Adam S. Lee announced the sentencing after U.S. District Judge M. Hannah Lauck imposed the sentences.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stephen E. Anthony and David V. Harbach, II, prosecuted the case.
