Joplin Man Indicted for Armed Robbery of Local Jewelry Store
A 33-year-old Joplin man has been indicted for the armed robbery of a local jewelry store at gunpoint. Paul Lloyd, a resident of Joplin, Missouri, is accused of stealing cash and jewelry from Select Jewelry, located at 3120 S. Main St., Joplin.
The incident occurred on March 17, 2016. According to the indictment, Lloyd was armed with a firearm and demanded cash and jewelry from the store employees. He then made off with the stolen goods, fleeing the scene in a 2002 Ford Mustang.
Lloyd allegedly transported the stolen vehicle across state lines from Missouri to Oklahoma. He was eventually arrested by Cherokee County, Oklahoma sheriff’s deputies following a pursuit. During the arrest, a loaded SCCY 9mm firearm was recovered next to the driver’s side door of the Mustang.
Lloyd is also charged with discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He faces additional charges of transporting a stolen vehicle across state lines.
U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson cautioned that the charges contained in the indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Kelleher. It was investigated by the Joplin, Missouri Police Department, the Cherokee County, Missouri Sheriff’s Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on high alert. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
