A Fort Pierce felon was sentenced to 84 months in prison for unlawful firearm possession and marijuana trafficking, authorities announced today.
Jose Antonio Morales, 33, was found guilty at trial of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possessing more than two pounds of marijuana with the intent to distribute, according to court records.
The charges stem from a June 2018 search warrant executed at Morales’ residence in Fort Pierce, where law enforcement seized two pounds of high-grade marijuana and a loaded firearm from a safe in his bedroom. The search warrant was executed when Morales’ residence was occupied by five children, including a toddler who was sleeping within a few feet of the safe.
Morales is a convicted felon and was prohibited by law from possessing a firearm and/or ammunition.
U.S. Attorney Ariana Fajardo Orshan commended the investigative efforts of the ATF and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office in this matter.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael D. Porter and Marton Gyires.
