BOSTON – Grimy Times has learned that a Brazilian man has been sentenced to prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation.
Jose Antonio Moreira Martins Desouza, 39, was sentenced to eight months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton.
The case began when Desouza was previously deported from the United States on Nov. 14, 2012. However, he was arrested by local police on May 22, 2023, and detained by immigration authorities on June 26, 2024.
Desouza pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien in September 2024. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2024.
Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Todd Lyons, Field Office Director, Boston, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, made the announcement.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case, bringing Desouza to justice for his crimes.
The sentence of eight months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, was handed down by Judge Gorton.
