Grimy Times has learned that a Guatemalan national has been charged in connection with reentry by an unlawful alien. According to court documents, Jose Antonio Ramirez-Morales, 36, reentered the United States unlawfully and was found in Carbon County, Pennsylvania.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), announced the charges in a joint statement.
Prosecutors allege that Ramirez-Morales, who was previously arrested and deported from the United States on May 14, 2010, reentered the country unlawfully. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years of imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
This is not the first time Ramirez-Morales has been charged with immigration-related crimes. His previous deportation and reentry have sparked concerns about the effectiveness of immigration enforcement efforts.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Alice Song Hartye. The investigation was conducted by ICE ERO.
Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.
