PITTSBURGH, PA – A Bronx man is headed to the federal pen for nearly four years after state troopers and federal agents caught him red-handed with eight kilograms of cocaine. Jose Baez Cabrera, 35, was sentenced today to 46 months by Chief U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon.
The bust went down August 16th, 2023, when Cabrera was caught driving the coke across Pennsylvania, allegedly destined for dealers in Erie. It wasn’t his first brush with the law – Cabrera was on probation for a 2021 felony conviction in New York, where he was nailed with a kilo of fentanyl.
Judge Bissoon also tacked on three years of supervised release, if Cabrera isn’t deported after serving his time. Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Haller handled the prosecution.
U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti gave props to the Pennsylvania State Police and the DEA for their work on the case.
