Three individuals have been charged with illegally re-entering the United States after previous deportations in a federal court in Ohio.
Jose Gregorio De Refugio Cruz, 50, a citizen of Mexico, Jermaine Willis, 39, a citizen of Jamaica, and Saul Reyes-Murcia, 45, a citizen of El Salvador, are the defendants in this case.
The charges stem from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Border Patrol.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alissa M. Sterling and Brad Beeson are handling the cases.
An indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendants are entitled to a fair trial in which the government will have to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, if convicted, the sentence will be determined by the court after reviewing various factors, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, role in the offense, and characteristics of the violation.
The maximum sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
