Jose Joaquin Oxlaj, Attempted Commercial Sex Trafficking, South Dakota 2015

Grimy Times has learned that five men have been charged with a serious crime in federal court, attempting to purchase sex acts with children. The shocking incident occurred in South Dakota, leaving many to question the morality of the accused.

According to sources, Jose Joaquin Oxlaj, 26, of Guatemala, was indicted on May 5, 2015, for Attempted Commercial Sex Trafficking. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on May 11, 2015, and pled not guilty to the Indictment.

The charges against Oxlaj are serious, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, a maximum sentence of life, a $250,000 fine, supervised release of not less than 5 years and up to life, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Oxlaj was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. It is unclear what led to his arrest, but authorities have made it clear that this is a serious crime that will not be taken lightly.

The charges against Oxlaj are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, the nature of the crime suggests that the prosecution will be aggressive in pursuing a conviction.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper is prosecuting the case, and trial dates have not been set. Oxlaj’s future hangs in the balance, as he awaits his fate in federal court.

Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
