MS-13 Gang Member Sentenced to 24 Years in Federal Prison for Murder and Racketeering Conspiracy
A Baltimore federal court has sentenced Jose Lainez Martinez, a 29-year-old El Salvadoran national, to 24 years in federal prison for his role in a murder and racketeering conspiracy involving the MS-13 gang.
Martinez, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar on May 7, 2023.
According to court documents, Martinez was a member of the MS-13 Fulton Locos Salvatruchas clique and participated in the gang’s affairs through a pattern of racketeering activity that included murder, conspiracy to commit murder, extortion, and drug distribution.
On May 26, 2020, Martinez and other MS-13 gang members shot and killed Victim 20 in Silver Spring, Maryland, as part of a revenge attack for a previous assault on an MS-13 member.
The guilty plea and sentence were announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron and other law enforcement officials.
As part of his plea agreement, Martinez admitted to participating in the sale of marijuana and collecting extortion money from brothels and other businesses, providing the proceeds to gang leadership.
Martinez will also serve five years of supervised release after his prison term.
