Joseph Allen Sams, a resident of Jacksonsburg, West Virginia, was sentenced to 18 months of incarceration for the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – On August 2021, Sams admitted to possessing a 20-gauge shotgun and nine rounds of 20-gauge ammunition in Tyler County.
Sams pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm’ in June 2022, a charge that prohibits individuals with prior felony convictions from possessing firearms.
The United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced the sentencing, stating that Sams is subject to the 18-month prison term.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Perri prosecuting on behalf of the government.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case.
The crime was committed in Tyler County by Joseph Allen Sams, a 36-year-old man with a prior felony conviction, who admitted to possessing a 20-gauge shotgun and nine rounds of 20-gauge ammunition.
