Christopher M. Vickers, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2020

Clarksburg, West Virginia resident Christopher M. Vickers, 31, has been indicted on a serious firearms charge, making headlines in the local community.

According to law enforcement officials, Vickers is accused of possessing a 5-shot revolver in June 2020 in Harrison County, despite being prohibited from owning a firearm due to a prior drug conviction.

The indictment, which was handed down last week, has placed Vickers in a precarious position. As a result of the indictment, he appeared before a federal magistrate judge, where he faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. This means that Vickers’s sentence could be significantly impacted by any prior convictions or the severity of the crime.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher L. Bauer is responsible for prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Shinnston Police Department, conducted the investigation that led to Vickers’s indictment.

Despite the serious nature of the charge, it’s essential to note that an indictment is merely an accusation. Vickers is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi presided over the proceedings, ensuring that the case is handled fairly and in accordance with the law.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to firearms laws and regulations, particularly for individuals with prior convictions.
