Fort Wayne, Indiana – A Fort Wayne man has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for his role in a marijuana distribution ring.
According to court documents, Joseph Brewington, 24, pleaded guilty to knowingly maintaining a premise for the purpose of distributing marijuana. District Judge Theresa L. Springmann handed down the sentence, also ordering Brewington to serve two years of supervised release after his prison term.
The investigation into Brewington’s activities was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Gellar handling the prosecution.
Brewington’s case is just one of two high-profile federal cases to emerge from the United States Attorney’s Office in Fort Wayne this week.
Jermorris Sewell, 30, of Fort Wayne, was also sentenced to 110 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances. Sewell’s sentence also included eight years of supervised release.
The investigation into Sewell’s activities was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service, with Gellar once again handling the prosecution.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the law enforcement agencies involved in the cases, saying their work had made Fort Wayne a safer place for residents.
