Arson Rocks Nebraska Community
A shocking case of arson has left the community in shock as a Norfolk man has been charged with setting fire to a car on the Santee Sioux Indian reservation.
Joseph Lloyd James, 47, of Norfolk, Nebraska, has been accused of committing the heinous crime, which is punishable by up to 25 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, a five-year term of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
The maximum punishment for the offense is severe, and James will have to face the music in court. His initial appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Susan M. Bazis is scheduled for November 21, 2018, at 1:30 p.m.
As the investigation into the death of Phyllis Hunhoff of Yankton, South Dakota, continues, James’ arrest has brought some sense of relief to the community. However, the case is still ongoing, and the United States Attorney’s Office is unable to provide additional comment at this time.
The case is being investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Santee Sioux Nation Police Department, the Lincoln Police Department, the Nebraska State Fire Marshal, the Norfolk Police Department, the Niobrara Police Department, and the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office.
A complaint is a formal accusation of conduct, and it is essential to note that James is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
