Joseph McMaster, Methamphetamine Trafficking, New Jersey 2019

A New York man has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for possessing more than 500 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute in New Jersey.

Joseph McMaster, 58, of Queens County, New York, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Brian M. Martinotti in Newark federal court on June 8, 2022, for his role in trafficking methamphetamine.

On June 8, 2019, McMaster was arrested in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, after traveling to the area to sell crystal methamphetamine. Agents conducting surveillance identified McMaster when he arrived at the meeting location. A search of his car recovered more than one pound of crystal methamphetamine, with an exact weight of over 500 grams.

McMaster previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Brian M. Martinotti in Newark federal court to an information charging him with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Martinotti sentenced McMaster to five years of supervised release. McMaster had previously been sentenced to 30 months in prison, to be served consecutively to the sentence imposed today, for violating the terms of his supervised release in the Southern District of New York on Sept. 13, 2021.

The investigation was led by special agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Susan A. Gibson. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ray A. Mateo of the Opioid Abuse Prevention and Enforcement Unit in Newark.
