A heated dispute over breakfast service at a Fort Wayne fast-food restaurant escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving one man facing a lengthy prison sentence.
Joseph R. Quinones, 31, of Reno, Nevada, was sentenced to 150 months in prison followed by 2 years of supervised release for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.
The incident occurred on November 14, 2023 when Quinones, upset that he could not order lunch items during the breakfast service, displayed a firearm and threatened employees at a local fast-food restaurant. Law enforcement apprehended Quinones near the restaurant and located a loaded firearm on his person.
Quinones has a prior felony conviction, which made him prohibited from possessing the firearm in this case.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Fort Wayne Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Teresa L. Ashcraft.
As part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, law enforcement agencies and community organizations are working together to reduce violent crime and gun violence in neighborhoods across the country.
The case is part of the PSN program, aimed at making communities safer for everyone. The program focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
