Joseph Daniel Saucedo, Child Exploitation, California 2018

SAN DIEGO – Joseph Daniel Saucedo, a resident of Vista, California, will spend nearly two decades behind bars after being sentenced to 235 months in federal court. Saucedo preyed on vulnerable children, manipulating them into sending sexually explicit photographs and videos, then escalating to threats of exposure when they resisted. The case lays bare the dark underbelly of online interaction and the devastating impact on young victims.

The investigation revealed a calculated scheme. Saucedo, posing as a teenage girl named “Amy Jennings,” initially engaged an 11-year-old Canadian boy in seemingly normal online conversation. This quickly devolved into a predatory tactic: Saucedo sent explicit images and requested similar content from the boy. When the boy refused, the online persona of “Amy” turned menacing, posting a photograph of the boy’s house and issuing direct threats, attempting to shame him into compliance. The boy eventually relented, leading to further exploitation before the threats were reported.

But the Canadian boy wasn’t Saucedo’s only target. In August 2015, Saucedo contacted a 16-year-old girl in Florida via Instagram, falsely claiming to be a modeling agent seeking “bikini and nude models.” He offered a lucrative opportunity, but quickly attempted to bypass parental involvement, suggesting they “make a portfolio” without consent. When the girl expressed discomfort, Saucedo shifted tactics, promising to “help” her feel more comfortable via FaceTime – a thinly veiled attempt to solicit explicit images.

The manipulation escalated. Saucedo, again using the “Amy Jennings” persona, began to blackmail the Florida girl. Ironically, the girl initially sought help *from* Saucedo regarding the threatening “Amy” posts. Saucedo feigned ignorance, then demanded nude photographs in exchange for “assistance.” The girl, desperate, complied, sending images with Saucedo’s name written across her body at his request. He continued to demand more, even sending a photo of stacks of cash to incentivize further exploitation, and continued the harassment for nearly a year.

Investigators, executing search warrants on Saucedo’s cell phones, uncovered evidence of an even wider network of victims. Beyond the two primary cases, they identified at least eight additional minor victims whom Saucedo had harassed and attempted to manipulate. This wasn’t a one-off incident; it was a sustained pattern of predatory behavior. Saucedo’s attempt to pay off “Amy Jennings” – a persona he himself created – highlights the desperation to cover his tracks, fearing exposure of his criminal activities.

In addition to the 235-month prison sentence, Joseph Daniel Saucedo will also serve 20 years of supervised release. The U.S. Attorney’s Office hopes this sentence sends a clear message: the exploitation of children online will be met with the full force of the law. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in the digital world and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable youth.
