Juan Gomez, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Texas 2023

A Mexican national was sentenced to five years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Juan Gomez, 35, of Mexico, was sentenced on March 21, 2023, for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation that distributed the highly addictive and destructive substance in the Beaumont area.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Gomez was arrested by Homeland Security Task Force agents after a lengthy investigation revealed his involvement in the trafficking operation.

Gomez’s sentencing comes as part of a larger effort by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing threat of methamphetamine trafficking in the United States.

As part of the operation, Gomez was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, a felony offense that carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison.

The U.S. Department of Justice praised the efforts of the Homeland Security Task Force and other law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, stating that their work has made a significant impact in disrupting and dismantling methamphetamine trafficking operations in the region.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs, who praised the cooperation and commitment of all agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of Gomez.

Gomez is currently being held at the Federal Correctional Institution in Beaumont, Texas, where he will begin serving his five-year sentence.
