ALBANY, NEW YORK – A Mexican citizen has been locked up for re-entering the United States without permission. Juan Leobardo Martinez Reyes, age 20, was sentenced today to time served (6.5 months), for the offense of illegal re-entry into the United States.
The 20-year-old was arrested by an ICE-ERO Officer in Latham, New York on September 10, 2018. A fingerprint check of Martinez-Reyes resulted in the discovery of the prior removals. Martinez-Reyes admitted that he returned to the United States without permission following the 2018 removals.
Martinez-Reyes entered a guilty plea on February 27, 2019. He is a citizen of Mexico, and was removed from the United States to Mexico on February 7, 2018 and again on February 9, 2018, after entering the United States without inspection from Mexico.
This case was investigated by ICE-ERO and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward P. Grogan. Following the sentencing, Martinez-Reyes was remanded to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security, for removal from the United States.
The U.S. Attorney’s office for the Northern District of New York made the announcement. United States Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and Thomas E. Feeley, Director of the Buffalo Field Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), also commented on the case.
