Julio Jimenez Garcia, Reentry After Deportation, Virginia 2024

Julio Jimenez Garcia, a 42-year-old man from El Salvador with a violent sexual history, is headed back to prison — not for the abuse of a child, but for sneaking back into the country after being deported.

Garcia was formally sentenced to 18 months in federal prison today in Alexandria, Virginia, after pleading guilty to illegally reentering the United States. The charge stems from his return just one month after being deported at taxpayer expense in October 2008 — a move that placed him back on American soil and within reach of his next victim.

Court documents reveal a pattern of predatory behavior. In 2017, Garcia was arrested by Virginia state police for sexually assaulting a five-year-old child on more than 40 separate occasions. The details of the abuse, though not fully aired in federal court, were enough to secure a guilty plea in April 2018 to indecent liberties with a child under 15 — a conviction that landed him in state prison.

Despite serving time for that heinous crime, federal authorities only recently prosecuted Garcia for the immigration violation. He pleaded guilty to illegal reentry in January 2019. U.S. District Judge Liam O’Grady handed down the 18-month sentence, underscoring the federal government’s focus on repeat offenders with dangerous pasts.

G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Lyle A. Boelens, Acting Field Office Director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Washington, D.C., confirmed the sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys La’Nese Clarke and Brianna Edgar.

Court records, including Garcia’s guilty pleas and sentencing documents, are publicly available through the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and via PACER under Case No. 2:18-cr-124. The case shines a harsh light on gaps in monitoring deported sex offenders — and the cost to taxpayers when they return to commit more crimes.
