Felon in Possession of a Firearm Lands Hattiesburg Man in Hot Water
A Hattiesburg man is facing the music after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Julius Daniels, 34, is now set to face the consequences of his actions in a federal court.
According to court records, Daniels was driving a vehicle on February 6, 2020, when a Hattiesburg Police officer stopped him. During the stop, the officer detected an odor of marijuana, prompting a search of the vehicle. In the glove compartment, a firearm was found, and Daniels’ prior conviction of sale of a controlled substance in Forrest County surfaced.
Daniels was subsequently indicted on May 11, 2021, and is set to be sentenced on February 15, 2022. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and the Hattiesburg Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Andrew W. Eichner is prosecuting the case, which is part of the federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program.
PSN is a crime reduction program aimed at reducing violent crime through a comprehensive approach that includes enforcement efforts and partnerships with prevention and reentry programs.
Daniels, 34, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, is charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1)).
The case is being prosecuted as part of the federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program.
