Daniel Tyler Morgan, Attempted Receipt of Child Pornography, Florida 2024

Daniel Tyler Morgan, 30, of Jupiter, Florida, is headed to federal prison for five years after being sentenced on charges tied to attempting to receive sexually explicit images of a child. U.S. District Judge Robin Rosenberg handed down the 60-month sentence on Monday, followed by five years of supervised release, capping a case rooted in betrayal of trust and digital predation.

Morgan, once a history teacher at St. Lucie West Centennial High School in Port St. Lucie, used the internet to groom a former student he had taught the previous school year. Over a three-month period, he escalated contact from casual messages to explicit solicitations, according to court records. He urged the minor to send sexually graphic photos and then crossed the line by sending a nude image of himself.

The relationship wasn’t limited to sexual coercion—Morgan also encouraged the underage student to smoke marijuana, further deepening the manipulation. His actions came to light through a joint investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) and the Port St. Lucie Police Department, which uncovered the digital trail of grooming and illegal solicitation.

On October 12, 2016, Morgan pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to receive sexually explicit images of a child. The plea preceded today’s sentencing and laid bare the calculated nature of his crimes. He is no longer employed by the St. Lucie County School District, which severed ties following the criminal investigation.

U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer, ICE-HSI Special Agent in Charge Mark Selby, and Port St. Lucie Police Chief John Bolduc jointly announced the sentencing outcome. Ferrer praised the investigators for their relentless pursuit of justice, emphasizing the dangers posed by predators who exploit positions of authority to target minors.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Butler and Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Funk. Court documents are available via the Southern District of Florida’s public docket at www.flsd.uscourts.gov or through PACER at http://pacer.flsd.uscourts.gov.
