An inmate at the Florida Department of Corrections was caught and convicted of sending a chilling threat to a federal judge in Pensacola. Christopher Summers, 58, mailed a handwritten letter to a judge in October 2024, vowing to have the judge killed upon release from prison.
The disturbing letter, full of violent intent, was meant to instill fear in the judge’s life. Summers’ plan was to have the judge murdered either from prison or upon release, with the threat even extending to harming the judge’s life at the courthouse.
Prosecutors zeroed in on the case, citing the alarming rise of threats against public officials. ‘We have zero-tolerance for such criminality in the Northern District of Florida,’ said US Attorney John P. Heekin.
Summers will now face maximum punishment for the crime. The jury’s guilty verdict marks a significant win for law enforcement and the public officials who serve our communities.
Federal authorities will continue to take threats against judges seriously, using this case as a warning to would-be perpetrators: we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
