Justin Fuget, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Missouri 2022

HANNIBAL, MO – Justin Fuget, 35, of Hannibal, Missouri, is headed to federal prison for over eleven years after a traffic stop uncovered a disturbing cache of drugs, ammunition, and an illegally possessed firearm. U.S. District Judge Ronnie L. White handed down the 137-month sentence on Thursday, concluding a case that exposed Fuget’s blatant disregard for the law.

The trouble began on March 25, 2022, when Hannibal Police Department officers pulled Fuget over. It wasn’t the stop itself that raised immediate red flags, but what was *inside* his vehicle: a large safe prominently displayed on the passenger seat. Witnesses and trial evidence revealed Fuget’s visible nervousness, and a K-9 unit quickly confirmed the officers’ suspicions – the vehicle reeked of narcotics.

A search revealed more than just the scent of drugs. Officers discovered a firearm wedged between the driver’s seat and the center console. This wasn’t a simple oversight; Fuget is a convicted felon, legally prohibited from possessing any firearm. But the gun was just the tip of the iceberg. The safe itself yielded a significant quantity of methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia and ammunition, painting a clear picture of a man deeply involved in the illicit drug trade.

Federal investigators didn’t stop at the physical evidence. A forensic examination of Fuget’s phone uncovered a trove of text messages directly linking him to the distribution of methamphetamine. These messages, presented as evidence during the January trial, solidified the case against him, proving he wasn’t just possessing the drug – he was actively peddling it.

Following a jury trial in St. Louis, Fuget was found guilty on three felony counts: being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The sentencing sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in the Eastern District of Missouri.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Hannibal Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Assistant U.S. Attorneys Catherine Hoag and Paul D’Agrosa successfully prosecuted the case, securing a substantial sentence for Fuget. The full weight of the law came down hard on Fuget, a clear warning to others operating outside the bounds of the law in Hannibal and beyond.
