Kadeem Coleman, a 31-year-old resident of Paterson, New Jersey, was sentenced to 82 months in prison for possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine and possessing ammunition by a convicted felon, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced today.
Coleman, who was previously federally convicted in the District of New Jersey for unlawful possession of a firearm, pleaded guilty to the charges before Chief U.S. District Judge Renée M. Bumb and was sentenced to 70 months in prison on those counts.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Bumb also sentenced Coleman to an additional 12 months in prison for violating the terms of his supervised release, which was to run consecutively, bringing the total to 82 months. Coleman was also sentenced to five years of supervised release.
The charges against Coleman stem from a search warrant executed at his residence on October 15, 2021, where law enforcement recovered fentanyl and cocaine, which was subsequently confirmed through laboratory testing, and over 120 rounds of ammunition.
Coleman’s sentencing is part of the Paterson Violent Crime Initiative (VCI), a partnership between the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, and the City of Paterson’s Department of Public Safety to combat violent crime in and around Paterson.
The case is also part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach.
U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited special agents of the FBI, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, and the Paterson Police Department with the investigation leading to the sentencing.
