A Memphis man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a brazen carjacking at a local gas station.
Kalonji Warren, 26, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for his involvement in the July 17, 2019, carjacking at the Pump and Munch gas station on East Shelby Drive in Memphis.
According to court documents, Warren and his accomplice, Kristopher Harris, pulled up to the victim’s vehicle and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the driver. Harris fired one shot into the front passenger-side window of the vehicle before Warren entered the car and drove away.
Video surveillance captured the suspect’s vehicle and showed Warren entering the gas station before the carjacking. Part of the incident was also captured on video surveillance.
Warren and Harris pleaded guilty to the carjacking charge on October 22, 2021. United States District Judge Thomas L. Parker sentenced Warren to 70 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Harris was sentenced to 97 months in prison and two years of supervised release on April 1, 2022.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorneys Wendy K. Cornejo and Gregory A. Wagner prosecuting on behalf of the government.
Warren’s sentencing brings a sense of closure to the victim, who was lucky to escape the carjacking alive.
