Pittsburgh Man Sentenced to 3+ Years in Prison for Illegally Possessing Handgun and Ammunition
A 36-year-old resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court to three years and one month in prison and three years supervised release on his conviction of violating the federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today.
Senior United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Kedren Broadus, age 36, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
According to information presented to the court, on or about November 13, 2017, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Officers pulled over a vehicle in which Broadus was a passenger. Broadus is an individual with a prior felony conviction for Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base, and he was on federal supervised release at the time of this offense.
At the traffic stop, Broadus fled on foot, and he dropped a .40 caliber Glock 23 handgun during the chase. When the police eventually apprehended Broadus, he had additional ammunition in the backpack he was carrying.
Federal law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
United States Attorney Brady commended the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Broadus. This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.
