Kelly Berenguer, Methamphetamine Possession, New York 2024

BUFFALO, NY – A Jamestown woman, Kelly Berenguer, 46, was sentenced to time served for possession of methamphetamine, a crime that has plagued the nation’s streets.

On October 17, 2024, Berenguer’s vehicle was stopped by Jamestown Police during a traffic stop. A search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of methamphetamine and a digital scale. Berenguer was taken into custody immediately.

Berenguer was convicted of possession of methamphetamine, a serious crime that has devastating effects on individuals and communities.

The case was part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eradicating the scourge of methamphetamine and other illicit substances from the country’s streets.

The case was investigated by the Jamestown Police Department, led by Chief Scott Forster, the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Farhana Islam, New York Field Division, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff James Quattrone.

Berenguer’s case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti.

At the sentencing hearing, U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer handed down the sentence of time served, bringing closure to the case.

As part of the ongoing efforts to combat the methamphetamine epidemic, the Department of Justice continues to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle the networks that facilitate the sale and distribution of illicit substances.
